Photo to cross stitch conversion charts have several attractive features:
- A cross stitch chart created from your photo will be one-of-a kind.
- If you enjoy stitching designs of subjects which are very hard to find, such as the tractors on my site, your photos can provide
another avenue for cross stitch charts.
- Like one area of your photo, but not the rest? Just indicate on a second copy of your photo the area you are interested in and send it
with your order.
- There are no partial stitches or back stitching in the chart. This makes the chart suitable for needlepoint, counted cross stitch and half cross stitching.
Plus the design is a bit easier and faster to complete.
- The size of the design, fabric stitch count, maximum number of colours used and the amount of detail in the chart are chosen by you.
When ordering the chart, please let me know your level of stitching experience (for eg.: beginner, intermediate, experienced). Charts can then be developed
to match your level of experience.
- The background in your photo can be removed entirely or replaced with a solid colour of your choice.
- If you wish to share your chart with friends or family members, extra copies are available for a nominal charge.
(Although I retain the copyright to the chart, I will not sell copies of your chart to other customers.)
- Completed charts are printed with black symbols used to represent floss colours.
- Standard chart grids are printed with 9 squares per chart inch. For a nominal charge, your chart grid can be can be printed from
8 squares to the chart inch up to 5 squares per chart inch. This is a great feature for anyone who needs to have larger symbols
and squares, saving the time and effort needed to get your chart enlarged.
- Barring unforseen circumstances, charts will be kept on file for 5 years. If a page or section of your chart is lost or damaged, send the title of the chart, the year it was made,
and the page number(s) which need to be replaced. Please include a large SASE with your request and the replacement will be sent out as soon as possible.
Chart Colours:
Depending on the size and detail involved, charts from colour photos can contain up to 70 colours or more. Charts from black and white photos or grayscale images can contain up to 20 colours or more.
Often a stitcher may be surprised by the colours which are, or are not, found in the chart or the finished design. Just think of each cross stitch design as a fine work of art, similar to a watercolour
or oil painting. When you are close to the design, the separate colours used are highly visible. Step back from the design, and the colours will seem to flow
together, forming the familiar shadings, shadows and contours seen in your original photo. Even colours present in tiny amounts will enhance the depth and beauty of the finished piece. I do go through
each chart manually and make any changes necessary to improve the colour flow and harmony in the chart.
Each custom photo conversion chart will contain the following items:
- Your photo centered and mounted on white paper.
- A title page with the name of the chart (if available), stitch count, approximate size, fabric count and number of colours used.
- Symbol list and general instructions
- Floss list and usage summary. The floss list is available for DMC or ANCHOR colours and conversions.
- Chart layout
- Chart grid
- A "Notes" page for keeping track of your progress, ideas, and materials used.
- Top-loading page protectors. These will protect the pages when handling them during stitching.
- A colored, transparent, plastic chart cover. These are great! This cover really can take alot of constant use
while still protecting the pattern.
Original Designs:
- Original cross stitch charts may contain partial stitches or backstitching, depending on the style of the image.
- New cross stitch designs will be displayed on the main site for four years. After four years, design will be placed in an archive. Archived designs will
remain available for sale, and free charts can still be downloaded.
- Original charts will be printed on heavy card stock, at the same standard grid size as the custom charts. These charts are packaged in the classic "chart in a bag" format
to reduce shipping costs. If you prefer, charts can be packaged as a custom photo chart (top-loading page protectors and plastic cover) for $3.50 more.
